What is the best fabric choice for outdoor cushions?
With our harsh Australian climate choosing the right outdoor fabric for your cushions is important, however you’ll see a big difference in price range depending on the type of fabric you are looking at.
Most Australian fabric suppliers will use a solution dyed Acrylic or solution dyed Olefin. We’ll see the cheaper imports as we do with any product but as the old adage says “you get what you pay for” really rings true with outdoor fabric.
So in our expert opinion Cushion House would recommend the two following fabrics:
Solution Dyed Olefin
Olefin is a very difficult product to dye which is why the dye is added during the production meaning the colour of the yarn is the true colour unlike many other products where the dye is added later which means the original yarn is white and over time will fade.
Why is Olefin a good outdoor cushion fabric?
- Resists fading
- Designed to resist mildew growth, chlorine damage
- Hard wearing fabric
- Light weight fabric
- Strong, high stain resistance and easy to clean
And if that’s not enough it has great water repellence and is an environmental friendly fabric.
Most of Warwick fabrics outdoor collections are solution dyed Olefin
Solution Dyed Acrylic
The solution dyed acrylic goes through the same process as the Olefin also giving it the same superior qualities and ensuring its longevity.
Sunbrella fabrics are mostly the solution dyed acrylic.
